Clock Repair Hobart
Nuttings Clock and Watch repairs was established in 1994 by Certified Watch and Clockmaker Glen Nutting.
Glen is a Graduate of RMIT University Watchmaking School as a part of Apprenticeship training.
Yes Watchmaking is a trade, and yes there are recognised qualifacations from Schools that you do have to obtain.
Glen has also completed additional overseas Brand training.
He is proudly a Fifth generation Tasmanian and his family go back to the very early days of Van Diemends Land..
Over time we have become the go to centre for Antique and modern clock repairs ,restoration , and watch repair.
Combining experience with specialist additional overseas training make our workshop a wealth of Horological knowledge you can trust.
Our bespoke Watch and Clockmaking workshops are capable of repairing the most complex watch restoration to the simple wall clock repair all treated with expert care.
We pick up ,repair and deliver your clocks or you can visit our extensive workshop , 15 min. from the Hobart GPO for an estimate.
Glen Nutting is a Qualified Watch and Clockmaker and a craftsman in his field having been trained in both in a traditional Clockmakers Shop.
The Watchmaker was once found working in Jewellers Shops ,these days you will only find a small specialist group of them working Independently or in a Brand Service Centre. Always ask to speak directly to the Watch or Clockmaker.
The truth of the matter is that anyone can declare themselves a clock maker or repairer.
We know, because we are confronted with the damaged inflected by these so called unqualified "clock makers" on a daily basis.
There are no standards or licensing arrangements set up to protect the public in Australia as there are for other trades and professions.
I recommend asking two questions to any person or business advertising that they do watch or clock repairs.
Firstly is your Clock or watch being repaired by them on their premises or is it going out the back door to someone else.
And secondly which recognised Watchmaking School did your Clock or Watchmaker attend.
If they can not answer these questions then its best to find a professional whose TRADE , not hobby is Watch and Clockmaking.
Glen Nutting was the FIRST and ONLY Australian Independent Watchmaker to complete specialist training with The Swatch Group U.S in America. This Omega Service Provider Training included servicing the CO AXIAL ESCAPEMENT, pressure testing, case refinishing and servicing procedures on current Omega Watch Movements.
We strive to undertake current training where provided, unfortunately training on most new quality mechanical watches is NOT available to Independent Watchmakers in Australia.
If you are a collector or just want a family heirloom restored, call us for your next clock repair , watch repair or full restoration.
I also service both Public and Private watch and clock collections and have received work from all over Australia.
